History of THETA Chapter of Maryland
Theta Chapter was chartered on April 26, 1952 by 14 women educators of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. Since that time, Theta Chapter has been involved in many state and international initiatives. Theta has adopted schools in the Prince George's County, supported local homeless shelters, and donated clothing to the "Dress to Impress Campaign" at the Bowie State University and the "Dress for Success" for the Training Source of Maryland. Both of these programs provide professional clothing in order to empower women to gain economic independence and success.
Theta has engaged in educational focus groups, mentored teachers, and lobbied for educational issues on the local, state and national level.

The Schools for Africa Project provides School Boxes to children in several African countries so these students will have adequate school supplies in order to be prepared for learning.
World Fellowship makes a difference by providing creative supports to encourage early-career level educators with a variety of strategies, such as:
We further believe that by supporting early-career educators in our communities, we will sustain our educational profession.

- Giving support through phone calls and visits
- Helping with lesson plans and bulletin board ideas
- Offering advice on classroom management and parent-teacher relations
- Providing support in appropriate and practical ways
- Bridging the achievement gap between theory and practice.
We further believe that by supporting early-career educators in our communities, we will sustain our educational profession.
