Welcome to Theta Chapter of DKG-Maryland, of Delta Kappa Gamma. It is located in the gorgeous Prince George's County, Maryland. Our members serve and live in Prince George's County, Montgomery County, and Washington, DC. Theta Chapter was organized and founded on April 26, 1952, as a division from Delta Chapter.

Distinguished Educator - Senator Joanne Benson

Senator Benson received the Distinguished Educator Award given by the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS Hall of Fame Gala, held on Friday, October 28, 2022. 
Senator Joanne Claybon-Benson was awarded the Distinguished Educator Award given by the Excellence in Education Foundation for the PGCPS Hall of Fame Gala.  
Senator Benson is an activist and community advocate, representing Prince George's County's 24th Legislative District since 1991 when she was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates.  
She was the first woman elected to serve as the District's Senator.  She is currently Assistant Deputy Senate Majority Leader and chairs the Senate Rules Committee and Prince George's County Senate Delegation. 
Senator Benson takes pride in her 40-year career as an educator in Prince George's County Public Schools.  She served in a number of capacities including as a Master Teacher, Instructional Support Specialist, Principal, Human Relations Specialist and Parent Involvement Specialist. 
​Mrs. Benson holds a BS from Bowie State University and a MS from Catholic University. She believes that education is one of the most powerful tools anyone can possess and is a constant proponent for the highest quality education for all.
